    • Project

Tanzania Bora Initiative implements a fourteen-month Serikali Yangu project (meaning My Government in Swahili).

Serikali Yangu is a citizen-centric programme that aims to empower young Tanzanians in Handeni and Mikumi constituencies to tackle unemployment through entrepreneurship and business capacity-building. The project helps trained youth to join established Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOS) managed by Local Government Authorities, through which the Youth Development Fund (YDF) is channeled as per directives of the Prime Minister#s Office and YDF guidelines. Working with the Youth Development Officers in Mikumi and Handeni (these are in charge of the YDF, and have in-depth awareness of how it works and facilitate access) helps trained youth join the SACCOs and have access to capital to start small businesses.

The project also facilitates interaction among and between the trained youth and the Youth Development Officers. The interaction takes place through invitations in the training sessions, dialogues and through the Serikali Yangu mobile platform that is conducted in the form of SMS every month.
